Lindsay Nuciera threw out the prompt “those angels can’t ever take my place”, lyrics from Tori Amos’ song, Playboy Mommy. I took up the prompt (while listening to the song again, repeatedly), aware this was very much a woman singing to a dead daughter, and you can read Tori Amos’ own words about this particular song here. The lyrics illuminated a battle (for me) between the sacred and profane, with a fiercely devoted mom challenging the angels to have a love stronger than hers—and nothing can beat that. This sketch is still available, and I’m willing to put more time into it too.
The original is available for $15.00! Snag it here.
