The Moirae
watercolors, 6.5 x 8.5 in (US $140)

The Fates of Greek mythology were figures whom even the gods feared. While I don't believe in fate being fixed (the Moirae were said to be present at new births to allot the newborn his fate in life), I've always found it calming--if sobering--to remember the three things that are guaranteed in life (even if their timing is unknown): Aging, sickness and death. I don't feel it morbid or particularly depressing to think/paint about mortality; it feels more like denial to expect life to come without suffering of the body. It is a very fragile object, dependent on many things, such as the environment and all the other sentient beings we interact with. (It's an awareness I've found very useful to practice, really.)
